Celebrating Completion

June 02, 2018

A Mad Hatter's themed-picnic and fun event was arranged to celebrate the installation of the last two items of equipment, the Junior Carousel and the Cableway. The weather was bright and sunny on the day as it had been for a week or more beforehand, which meant the lack of rain had not helped the grass seed on the mounds to grow and so we were not able to officially open it, just celebrate completion of this project started late in 2014 (see the August 2017 issue of the Palgrave Star and below on the PDCC website for the backstory).

The Cableway was the most-desired item of equipment resulting from the survey involving local children and young people.

Thanks to Andrew Rackham a number of different 'games' to the usual selection were available on the day, including stocks and bikes that steered in the opposite direction. The stocks proved attractive as a means of cooling down - usually Dad or Grandad - always game for a laugh and as wetting.

A number of representatives of bodies who had given grants towards the project were present and Elaine Bootman thanked all of them, present or absent, on behalf of the PDCC.

They included (from left to right) Neil Morley and Basil Abbott of Montgomerie Lodge of Freemasons in Diss, with Jane McClintock, Elaine Bootman, Wendy Cooper, County Cllr Jessica Fleming, Wendy Miles of Essex & Suffolk Water, and Hannah Cooke.

Mid Suffolk District Cllr David Burn was also present but had to leave for another engagement before the group photograph. Mid Suffolk granted over 30% of the funding.

The 'Play in Palgrave' Team (Elaine Bootman, Hannah Cooke, Jane McClintock and Wendy Cooper, with support from Susie Dyer and several other regular volunteers) are to be congratulated on their successful completion of the installation.

Further events will be held to raise funds for annual insurance, regular safety inspections, maintenance and replacements, and to provide some additional tables and seating.

PLAY IN PALGRAVE UPDATE

With many thanks to the most recent grant-funding organisations and through the support of Palgrave residents attending local fund-raising events we are now able to complete the second Phase of the play area.

The Cableway and Carousel were ordered from Timberplay on 29 November completing Phase 2 of the Play in Palgrave Project.  The lead time for delivery to Timberplay, from their manufacturer in Germany is 10 – 12 weeks.  We are anticipating the construction and installation of both the Cableway and Carousel will be in April/May 2018.  We will then have an official opening in June, ideally to coincide with the Mad Hatter’s Picnic event the Play in Palgrave Team are organising.

In the last few days our Project has been supported by the Essex & Suffolk Water Community Fund, which is managed by the Essex Community Foundation who awarded £1,500.

Below are details of funds received over the last few months which have allowed the purchase of the Carousel and Cableway to go ahead.

Easter Craft Fayre

April 17, 2017

At the Easter Fayre held on Saturday 15 April at Palgrave Community Centre £61 was raised from the raffle of the 2 chocolate hampers donated by Morrisons for Play in Palgrave funds.

We are extremely grateful to Morrisons for their donation and to everyone who purchased raffle tickets on the day.

The adult chocolate hamper was won by Jane Lockwood, (who was very pleased as Jane doesn't normally win anything and winning the hamper had made her weekend).  The child hamper was won by Jack Rogers, (Jack was cock-a-hoop and promised he would share the hamper with his family).  I wonder if he did......................

Planning Approval Granted

October 18, 2016

Planning approval was given by Mid-Suffolk District Council for the Play in Palgrave project on Friday 14 October.

Now we have planning permission we will be applying for capital grants to help make these plans become a reality.

We thank the residents of Palgrave, Tesco Community team,  a local businessman, Palgrave Parish Council, District and County Councillors David Burn and Jessica Fleming, and everyone who has supported our local fund raising events so far.

Please look out for details of further fund raising events planned, in the Star,  Parish News, on the website and on the notice board outside the school.
